"Waiting On" Wednesday: The Arrivals

"Waiting On" Wednesday is a weekly event, hosted here, that spotlights upcoming releases that we're eagerly anticipating.

This week's pre-publication "can't-wait-to-read" selection is:

The Arrivals
By Meg Mitchell Moore
Publication Date: May 25

From Amazon:

It's early summer when Ginny and William's peaceful life in Vermont comes to an abrupt halt.

First, their daughter Lillian arrives, with her two children in tow, to escape her crumbling marriage. Next, their son Stephen and his pregnant wife Jane show up for a weekend visit, which extends indefinitely when Jane ends up on bed rest. When their youngest daughter Rachel appears, fleeing her difficult life in New York, Ginny and William find themselves consumed again by the chaos of parenthood - only this time around, their children are facing adult problems.

By summer's end, the family gains new ideas of loyalty and responsibility, exposing the challenges of surviving the modern family - and the old adage, once a parent, always a parent, has never rung so true.

Interesting choice! I can't say that this is something that I might usually pick up but it sounds like a good read.

I normally wouldn't choose this but I am really interested in how the parents cope.

Like the above commenters, this isn't something I'd normally pick up, but it does sound like an intriguing read!

Hm. I like books that take on the difficulties of parenthood. Sounds interesting!

Very realistic these days, kids coming home the empty nest getting filled with more than just your own kids. Have a little of that going on myself. Maybe I should read this and see how the parents handle it. Interesting pick!

I like the sound of this novel and the cover is wonderful! It sounds like the parents peaceful life comes to an abrupt end, at least for awhile. Thanks for sharing it with us, Jill.

I just read an article about a crop of new books with adult children 'coming home' to their parents. I wonder if it's symptomatic of our generation? Or perhaps a mirror of fears? Interesting, anyway. Nice pick.

Lordy lou this book sounds like my worst nightmare! Of course, I am putting it on my wish list anyway but hoping that once my children move out, they are moved out. ::grin::

This sounds like like a good book, but very sad. I might try it when it comes out. Thanks!

Boy does that sound good! We actually have friends who are living a life similar to that.

Goodness, that sounds so very true, especially nowadays with boomerang children. I have to admit I was one not once but twice, but I'm determined not to boomerang again on my parents. I hope it's a good read for you. :)

Happy reading!

I think this one sounds pretty good! Maybe good for fans of Parenthood too. The cover is beautiful.

Sounds good. It reminds me of an Aussie tv show called Packed to the Rafters, where just when the parents think they have an empty nest, their adult children move back home.

Jamie Kline (Bookerella) said...

I like the cover! It's not a book I would normally read, but I don't really have one genre that I stick to so who knows, I might read this at some point! I've been pleasantly surprised by books that I thought I would hate but ended up becoming some of my favorites.

Interesting choice, Jill! I'll have to check it out!

Great post as always! I agree with a lot of the commenters - this sounds like a heavy book - I think I'd have to be in the right life experience or frame of mind to get into this one - although I know books like this can surprise you when they're really well written and even as emotional as they are, they become all time favorites!

Thanks again for sharing! Here's my WoW:

Not something I'd normally pick up, but this sounds pretty intriguing. A bit sad, but intriguing.

Being a teen services librarian, I don't usually read books for adults, but this one really appeals to me! As a new-ish parent, I have an appreciation for reading about parenting nowadays.
