"Waiting On" Wednesday is a weekly event, hosted here, that spotlights upcoming releases that we're eagerly anticipating.
This week's pre-publication "can't-wait-to-read" selection is:
This Beautiful Life
By Helen Schulman
Publication Date: August 2
From HarperCollins website:
When the Bergamots move from a comfortable upstate college town to New York City, they’re not quite sure how they’ll adapt—or what to make of the strange new world of well-to-do Manhattan. Soon, though, Richard is consumed by his executive role at a large New York university, and Liz, who has traded in her academic career to oversee the lives of their children, is hectically ferrying young Coco around town. Fifteen-year-old Jake is gratefully taken into the fold by a group of friends at Wildwood, an elite private school.
But the upper-class cocoon in which they have enveloped themselves is ripped apart when Jake wakes up one morning after an unchaperoned party and finds an email in his in-box from an eighth-grade admirer. Attached is a sexually explicit video she has made for him. Shocked, stunned, maybe a little proud, and scared—a jumble of adolescent emotion—he forwards the video to a friend, who then for-wards it to a friend. Within hours, it’s gone viral, all over the school, the city, the world.
The ensuing scandal threatens to shatter the Bergamots’ sense of security and identity, and, ultimately, their happiness. They are a good family faced with bad choices, and how they choose to react, individually and at one another’s behest, places everything they hold dear in jeopardy.

Whoa! This plot sounds really intense-- sounds almost like a psychological thriller!
ReplyDeleteLea @ LC's Adventures in Libraryland
Very interesting book! I like that there are books that are approaching subjects like these: sexting, sending sexy videos in emails, etc.. It's becoming more popular, and the consequences are huge!

ReplyDeleteI love the cover!
ReplyDeleteHmmm... I'd be interested to hear what you think of the book once you read it!
ReplyDelete- Jen @ A Book and a Latte
Well, after seeing this book meme on so many other blogs, and doing a bit of ponderfing on whether or not to do this type of thing on my blog, I finally decided to joint the fun!
ReplyDeleteSo I have published my very first WOW post, which I have combined with news about a book giveaway happening on another blog.
Now I'll be keeping up with other blogs' WOW posts as well, including the ones on Breaking the Spine!
Maria @ http://twilightandotherdreams.blogspot.com/
Sorry about the typos....the Keyboard Monster has been bugging me today! : )
ReplyDeleteSounds interesting. I just hope a lesson is learned at the end.
ReplyDeleteI went back and read the book synopsis, which I must confess I hadn't perused before linking up. Well, I have to say that this plot is very close to what a real-life scenario would be. The Internet has turned into something of a monster, where rumors and gossip are concerned!
ReplyDeleteWhile the book does sound intriguing, I must make another confession -- it's not my cup of tea... The type of books I love to read have plots taking place in that other world, the one full of faeries, angels, vampires, green-blooded aliens, and other fantastical creatures.
I'll be checking out your other WOW posts. Hope you have featured some books full of other-worldly characters! But if not, no problem. There's room for all reading tastes and genres in our reality! : )
Interesting Pick!
ReplyDeleteLinked my W.o.W post for this week!
Good pick this week. I may have to add it to my list!
ReplyDeleteThis one looks very intense and kind of scary.
ReplyDeleteSally.

Wow, not the meme ;)
ReplyDeleteI mean the summary and the cover. Their world will crumble like the house of cards with the release of that video and the implications.
This is my first WOW.
ReplyDeleteThis Beautiful Life sounds really good! It is definitely going on my TBR list! Thanks for sharing!
ReplyDeleteAdmittedly I perk up whenever I see New York, but the topic sounds like it could be good if done right. I'm going to check back in on this one and see.
