This week's pre-publication "can't-wait-to-read" selection is:
The Good House
By Ann Leary
Publication Date: January 15
From Amazon:
The Good House tells the story of Hildy Good, who lives
in a small town on Boston’s North Shore. Hildy is a successful
real-estate broker, good neighbor, mother, and grandmother. She’s also
a raging alcoholic. Hildy’s family held an intervention for her about a
year before this story takes place and now
she feels lonely and unjustly persecuted. She has also fooled herself
into thinking that moderation is the key to her drinking problem.
As if battling her demons wasn’t enough to keep her busy, Hildy soon finds herself embroiled in the underbelly of her New England town, a craggy little place that harbors secrets. There’s a scandal, some mysticism, babies, old houses, drinking, and desire—and a love story between two craggy 60-somethings that's as real and sexy as you get. An exceptional novel that is at turns hilarious and sobering, The Good House asks the question: What will it take to keep Hildy Good from drinking? For good.

Interesting pick! I will definetly look into this one!
ReplyDeleteI don't know what will keep Hildy from drinking. They have some long winters up there and it's very rainy, so can't blame her for drinking, especially if she has no one to keep her bed warm! Find a man Hildy! Hope you enjoy it.

ReplyDeleteFab pick!! This is a book that i wouldn't normally pick up from the cover but the blurb sounds really interesting and intriguing. I am reading more books that are of an adult genre rather than a YA, i am enjoying them too. Thanks for sharing.

I loved Ann Leary's last book Outtakes from a Marriage. There is one excruciatingly humiliating scene in it I will never forget. I've been wondering when her next novel would be published!
ReplyDeleteSounds like a good book! Real life events that happen in a lot of people's lives.
ReplyDeleteSounds like a winner to me!
ReplyDeleteMine is Unravel me :)
ReplyDeleteNever heard of that one, but sounds really interesting! As a side note, I really loved the current book you are reading, Where We Belong by Emily Giffin. It's terrific. I got it signed by her a few days ago.
