"Waiting On" Wednesday: The Burgess Boys

"Waiting On" Wednesday is a weekly event, hosted here, that spotlights upcoming releases that we're eagerly anticipating.

This week's pre-publication "can't-wait-to-read" selection is:

The Burgess Boys
By Elizabeth Strout
Publication Date: March 26

From Amazon:

Haunted by the freak accident that killed their father when they were children, Jim and Bob Burgess escaped from their Maine hometown of Shirley Falls for New York City as soon as they possibly could. Jim, a sleek, successful corporate lawyer, has belittled his bighearted brother their whole lives, and Bob, a Legal Aid attorney who idolizes Jim, has always taken it in stride. But their long-standing dynamic is upended when their sister, Susan—the Burgess sibling who stayed behind—urgently calls them home. Her lonely teenage son, Zach, has gotten himself into a world of trouble, and Susan desperately needs their help. And so the Burgess brothers return to the landscape of their childhood, where the long-buried tensions that have shaped and shadowed their relationship begin to surface in unexpected ways that will change them forever.

  11. You beat me on this one! I think I have it queued up for next week. I also see you are reading Chris Bohjalian's latest book...I just finished it last night. I read some not so great reviews, but I rather enjoyed it, even though it certainly was not uplifting.

  13. Our tastes are so different, what with me always wanting to escape reality and all, but this one actually sounds awesome!!! I'd really love to visit back to Maine b/c I can totally relate to the bleakness of growing up in Maine and wanting to get out. I only lived there 3 years but I always wondered why more kids didn't run away.

    AWESOME pick this week!!!
