"Waiting On" Wednesday: The Realm of Last Chances

"Waiting On" Wednesday is a weekly event, hosted here, that spotlights upcoming releases that we're eagerly anticipating.

This week's pre-publication "can't-wait-to-read" selection is:

The Realm of Last Chances
By Steve Yarbrough

Publication Date: August 6

From Amazon:

When Kristin Stevens loses her job in California's higher-education system, she and her husband, Cal, relocate to Massachusetts. Kristin takes a position at a smaller, less prestigious university and promptly becomes entangled in its delicate, overheated politics. Cal, whose musical talent is nothing more than a consuming avocation, spends his days alone, fixing up their new home. And as they settle into their early fifties, the two seem to exist in separate spheres entirely. At the same time, their younger neighbor Matt Drinnan watches as his ex-wife takes up with another man in town, with only himself to blame. Each facing a different sense of isolation, he and Kristin gravitate toward each other, at first in hopes of a platonic confidant but then, inevitably, as something more.

Hmm, where's the husband with the musical talent and fixing up the house in all this, I wonder. Seems like sneaking around would be hard with the husband home all the time. Sounds like a heavy read. My genre is MG and YA so I have a different kind of heavy.

Hope you enjoy your novel when it comes out!!

This story sounds kind of sad! I want my 50s to be fun, not settling into tedium. As always, interesting pick!

It's kind of cool to see romantic opportunities still available as someone heads into their 50's, but the idea of a spouse in the picture - not so good (I, too, have to wonder where her hubby is as Kristin and Matt get closer). Not my type of story, but it sounds interesting.

Not really my type of book. The cover is kind of blah too. But you never know, don't judge a book by the cover, right?
