"Waiting On" Wednesday is a weekly event, hosted here, that spotlights upcoming releases that we're eagerly anticipating.
This week's pre-publication "can't-wait-to-read" selection is:
The Race for Paris
By Meg Waite Clayton
Publication Date: August 11
From Amazon:
Normandy, 1944. To cover the fighting in France, Jane, a reporter for the Nashville Banner, and Liv, an Associated Press photographer, have endured enormous danger and frustrating obstacles—including strict military regulations limiting what women correspondents can. Even so, Liv wants more.
Encouraged by her husband, the editor of a New York newspaper, she’s determined to be the first photographer to reach Paris with the Allies, and capture its freedom from the Nazis.
However, her Commanding Officer has other ideas about the role of women in the press corps. To fulfill her ambitions, Liv must go AWOL. She persuades Jane to join her, and the two women find a guardian angel in Fletcher, a British military photographer who reluctantly agrees to escort them. As they race for Paris across the perilous French countryside, Liv, Jane, and Fletcher forge an indelible emotional bond that will transform them and reverberate long after the war is over.

Paris! Liv and Jane sound fabulous -- what an intriguing threesome they make with Fletcher. My pick this week is a little bit more conventional, maybe, but I've been looking forward to Day Shift for so long now (Charlaine Harris)

Nice! A Paris backdrop is always the loveliest of places. My pick for this week doesn't come out until 2016... I'm not sure how I end with THESE WoW that take forever to come out. Beth @ Perpetual New Girl

ReplyDeleteThe Race for Paris doesn't sound like what I would usually read but I do find the description intriguing! :)
ReplyDeleteOh, this definitely sounds exciting!! I don't normally read this type of book, but I really like this one, because it has a feminist slant. I LOVE plots in which women exceed the expectations of the society of their times! So I'm adding this one to my Goodreads TBR shelves!! Thanks for featuring it!! : )
ReplyDeleteIt's my very first WoW post!!!
ReplyDeleteYour pick this week is interesting. I love watching World War 2 movies. I'm not sure if I'd love reading about it, too.

ReplyDeleteThat sounds really interesting! Reminds me a little of The Witch of Stalingrad.

Hmm, I'm not usually the biggest reader of historical fiction, but I DO have a major soft spot for books (and movies) set it Paris, so I'll definitely have to check this one out. I hope you enjoy it when you read it though!
ReplyDeleteThis is my first time joining! Glad to finally be a part of the crew :)
