"Waiting On" Wednesday: Pretty Baby

"Waiting On" Wednesday is a weekly event, hosted here, that spotlights upcoming releases that we're eagerly anticipating.

This week's pre-publication "can't-wait-to-read" selection is:

Pretty Baby
By Mary Kubica

Publication Date: July 28

From Amazon:

She sees the teenage girl on the train platform, standing in the pouring rain, clutching an infant in her arms. She boards a train and is whisked away. But she can't get the girl out of her head…

Heidi Wood has always been a charitable woman: she works for a nonprofit, takes in stray cats. Still, her husband and daughter are horrified when Heidi returns home one day with a young woman named Willow and her four-month-old baby in tow. Disheveled and apparently homeless, this girl could be a criminal—or worse. But despite her family's objections, Heidi invites Willow and the baby to take refuge in their home.

Heidi spends the next few days helping Willow get back on her feet, but as clues into Willow's past begin to surface, Heidi is forced to decide how far she's willing to go to help a stranger. What starts as an act of kindness quickly spirals into a story far more twisted than anyone could have anticipated.

Something about this cover depresses me. The color palette, maybe?

I want to read this one too! I've read Mary Kubica's The Good Girl, and really liked it. :)

This looks like an interesting read! Definitely not one I would choose but it's always good to read outside your comfort zone.

I've been seeing this one in the Shelf Awareness newsletter I think. Great pick!

Oh cool! This is by the same author who wrote The Good Girl, which I loved. Adding it to my list. Great pick. Ashley at Chronicles

I loved Kubica's first book. I saw this on NetGalley but it was only being offered to Australia.

I'm looking forward to this one too. Have heard so many good things about the previous book and need to read it too. I do think that the covers chosen for her books are interesting - kind of washed out looking.

That sounds good. It reminds me of Shelter Us, but sounds a bit more dark. Girl Who Reads

Can't say it's for me, but I hope you enjoy it. Sounds a little too serious and dark for me.

This sounds really interesting!

I think that sounds a little too sinister for me, but just right for those who like psychological suspense.

This one sounds pretty interesting. There's nothing like getting into a great thriller.

Sounds like it could be a good read! Enjoy!

Sounds really interesting and different! I'm always looking for something different. The WoW I had been waiting for was 'The Dragonfly Guardian' by Angela Antaloczy, it finally came out and was great! Definitely a recommended YA fantasy read!
