"Waiting On" Wednesday: Where'd You Go, Bernadette

** Have you entered my giveaway for THE LOST SAINTS OF TENNESSEE yet? **

"Waiting On" Wednesday is a weekly event, hosted here, that spotlights upcoming releases that we're eagerly anticipating.

This week's pre-publication "can't-wait-to-read" selection is:

Where'd You Go, Bernadette
By Maria Semple
Publication Date: August 14

From Amazon:

Bernadette Fox is notorious. To her Microsoft-guru husband, she's a fearlessly opinionated partner; to fellow private-school mothers in Seattle, she's a disgrace; to design mavens, she's a revolutionary architect, and to 15-year-old Bee, she is a best friend and, simply, Mom.

Then Bernadette disappears. It began when Bee aced her report card and claimed her promised reward: a family trip to Antarctica. But Bernadette's intensifying allergy to Seattle--and people in general--has made her so agoraphobic that a virtual assistant in India now runs her most basic errands. A trip to the end of the earth is problematic.

To find her mother, Bee compiles email messages, official documents, secret correspondence--creating a compulsively readable and touching novel about misplaced genius and a mother and daughter's role in an absurd world.

  6. Hi! I'd just like to ask you a question. Something must be wrong with your linky, because every time I try to link up, I have to do it twice.

The first time I linked up today, I was blog #24. I decided to refresh the page, just in case. When I did, my blog was not on the list. So I linked up again, and my blog then appeared as number #30...Again I refreshed the page, just to make sure, and then my blog appeared as number #32! Why is this happening? Is there anything you can do to prevent this? My blog should have stayed at #24. Just wondering...

  7. Now I'd like to comment on the book you've chosen. I've never heard of it, but it does sound very interesting! It's also a quirky, unusual read. I find any book that departs to some extent from reality (which to me is unutterably boring!) to be compulsive reading! It also sounds like the characters and plot sparkle with humor. Another plus! So thanks for bringing this novel to the attention to all fugitives from that dreary land known as "the real world"! I'm hopping on board this fictional train in order to find out where this girl's mother went off to! (Maybe she decided to open up an ashram on the tundra...who knows?)
YAY for the defeat of (ho hum! reality!!!!!!
