"Waiting On" Wednesday: The Sisters
"Waiting On" Wednesday is a weekly event, hosted here, that spotlights upcoming releases that we're eagerly anticipating.
This week's pre-publication "can't-wait-to-read" selection is:
The Sisters
By Nancy Jensen
Publication Date: November 8
From Amazon:
Growing up in hardscrabble Kentucky in the 1920s, with their mother dead and their stepfather an ever-present threat, Bertie Fisher and her older sister Mabel have no one but each other—with perhaps a sweetheart for Bertie waiting in the wings. But on the day that Bertie receives her eighth-grade diploma, good intentions go terribly wrong, setting off a chain of misunderstandings that will send the sisters on separate paths and reverberate through their daughters’ and granddaughters’ lives. From the Depression through World War II and Vietnam, and smaller events both tragic and joyful, Bertie and Mabel forge unexpected identities and raise daughters—and sisters—of their own, learning that love and betrayal are even more complicated than they seem.

Hi, will come back and comment t...Sorry...more fully later. Going to work. Linked to the whole blog instead of to the post, so I tried to link again, and couldn't do it...
ReplyDeleteSounds good, It has a pretty cover :)
ReplyDeleteSisters seem to be a popular theme this year, and I'm enjoying the explorations of these complex relationships. This one is definitely going on my list as I love reading books set in the South during this time period.

I love when history and ficition meets. Sounds good.
ReplyDeleteAmy (new follower) sorry apparently i am supposed to write this.
Here I am, on the sly at work...lol. Anyway, just to let you know -- you can delete link #77. What happened was that, in my hurry this morning, I linked to the home page, instead of to the WOW post. (I was half-asleep...) I was able to link up again -- that link is #81, which is the link to the WOW post. I'm really sorry about that. Guess I should have had my coffee first, right?
ReplyDeleteAnyway...your pick looks real good! Not my usual cup of tea (pun intended), as I lean more to anything fantastical and out of the ordinary, but still, I think I'll add it to my TBR pile. I agree with Penelope -- the cover is just beautiful! Besides, I do like historical fiction from time to time!
Thanks for sharing! : )
Sounds like a real page turner. Hope you enjoy it when it comes out.
ReplyDeleteMy WoW is rather a far-sighted look, but I'm sure excited about it!
