"Waiting On" Wednesday: The Darlings

"Waiting On" Wednesday is a weekly event, hosted here, that spotlights upcoming releases that we're eagerly anticipating.

This week's pre-publication "can't-wait-to-read" selection is:

The Darlings
By Cristina Alger
Publication Date: February 16

From Amazon:

Now that he's married to Merrill Darling, daughter of billionaire financier Carter Darling, attorney Paul Ross has grown accustomed to New York society and all of its luxuries: a Park Avenue apartment, weekends in the Hamptons, bespoke suits. When Paul loses his job, Carter offers him the chance to head the legal team at his hedge fund. Thrilled with his good fortune in the midst of the worst financial downturn since the Great Depression, Paul accepts the position.

But Paul's luck is about to shift: a tragic event catapults the Darling family into the media spotlight, a regulatory investigation, and a red-hot scandal with enormous implications for everyone involved. Suddenly, Paul must decide where his loyalties lie--will he save himself while betraying his wife and in-laws or protect the family business at all costs?

  3. Park Avenue and hedge funds, definitely sounds like it should be an interesting read. "The Darlings" makes me think of Peter Pan. :-) Check out my WOW here

  6. This reminds me of that family drama that was on TV a few years ago. The rich, crazy family were named the Darlings too. I was so sorry when it got canceled. Sounds like this is my kind of book!

  7. When I saw the title of this book, my mind went immediately to Peter Pan. Then I read the synopsis. I hadn't heard of this before, but it sounds like a good read! :)

  8. My very first 'Waiting On Wednesday' post.

  9. This sounds very current. The fact that the protagonist must decide between himself and wife could be very interesting in the way the author creates the characters. Good pick.

  10. Okay, your pick does sound interesting. I'll admit that I'm almost intrigued enough to add it to my TBR. But I know, realistically, this just isn't a book I'd read. Haha, but I'm intrigued to see what you think when you finally read it. (:

If you like, stop by and check out my WoW.

  12. That's a really nice title! Sounds more like a fairy tale story rather than a family drama. :)

  13. I've seen this book popping up. It looks good. I don't like this cover though. I'm new to WoW. =)

  14. This one looks really good. When I read the title I thought right away of the family in 101 Dalmations....I think their last name was Darling. However, when I read the description it sounds nothing at all like that!

  15. The title sure reminds me of The Darlings in the TV show Dirty Sexy Money. Intriguing choice. :)

  18. It's hard to tell from the plot summary because so much will depend on how the characters are developed. It definitely sounds like a good plot line for delving into how people behave when faced with a moral quandary.

    ReplyDelete
  19. I like the sound of The Darlings - outside of my normal reading, but it sounds great!!

    ReplyDelete
  20. I thought this might be an updated version of Peter Pan! From the name of the characters, but no...guess not. It does sound good and seems timely certainly.

    ReplyDelete
  21. I like the sound of this one. I wonder if has some Mafia stuff in it. That's a tough choice, betray the wife to save himself. Ouch.
